REACH! currently offers two dynamic programs for newcomers (refugees and new immigrants) through the Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria (ICA). One is a unique early childhood learning program for pre-school children. Fun and creative musical and movement activities are used joyfully to enhance development of social, English language, music and pre-academic skills for 2-4 year-olds. Both individual and group expression are nurtured. The sessions have proven to be both educational and therapeutic, especially for children of refugee families who have experienced significant trauma.
The other program facilitates English language development through singing for adult newcomers. A welcome and lively supplement to their regular ESL lessons, participants experience fun and joy while learning new words and expressions in songs. Music is truly a universal language and the students really look forward to these sessions each week.
These two programs are currently not open to the public, and the photo above is from our original children's music and movement program in the Caribbean.
