This unique early childhood learning program utilizes music and movement to enhance development of social, English language, music and pre-academic skills in young children through both individual and group expression. Developed by Anne-Marie Brimacombe (our Artistic Director) with input from numerous educational professionals, it has been successfully offered in community centres in Canada and in selected pre-schools in the Caribbean.
It is currently being offered by REACH for children of refugees and new immigrants at the Childcare Centre of the Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria (ICA). A number of these children have been traumatized by war and this program is especially effective in helping them overcome fear, and interact with others in joyful activity (in addition to developing so many of the other important early-learning skills).
A similar program is also now provided by REACH for the Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Centre Society (VIRCS) including parents with the young children. Here there is a greater emphasis on English Language development through music and movement.
The programs are currently not open to the public, and the photo above is from our original program in the Caribbean.
